During a routine inspection at our Brazil factory, the team noticed a beehive nestled on the outside of the building. As a first step, specialist advice was sought to ensure the safety of employees and to understand the situation properly.
Following assessment, it was confirmed that the hive belonged to the Jataí bee – a native Brazilian species that is completely harmless, stingless and well suited to urban environments. These bees are known for their adaptability, often making their homes in small, sheltered spaces such as wall cavities, tree hollows and even electrical boxes.
Beyond their gentle nature, Jataí bees play an essential role in supporting biodiversity. As pollinators, they contribute to the health of local ecosystems and food production. They are also known for producing a rare, mild honey with natural medicinal qualities, making their presence even more valuable.
With this in mind, the team made the decision to protect the hive rather than remove it. To help raise awareness, informational signs have been installed nearby, explaining the importance of the Jataí bee and the role it plays in the local environment.
Now located in a small cavity in the external wall of the expedition area, the hive stands as a simple but powerful reminder that even in industrial settings, nature can thrive when given the space and respect it deserves.
