Lucy Electric Thame was alive with energy and ambition as we welcomed prospective apprentices and their families to our recent Apprenticeship Open Evening. Across three sessions, guests explored what a future in engineering could look like and discovered how our apprenticeship pathways can lead to rewarding, impactful careers.
From learning about the industries we serve to hearing directly from the people driving our innovation, the evening provided an authentic insight into life at Lucy Electric and our commitment to developing future engineering talent.
Opening with Opportunity
Guests were welcomed on arrival by Lisa Robinson, Project Manager, Nick Lambourne, Lead HR Business Partner, and James Finn, Development Partner, who hosted conversations about career pathways and opportunities at Lucy Electric, setting an open and engaging tone for the evening.
The event formally opened with Matt Bryant, Development Partner, who introduced Lucy Electric’s purpose and our long-standing commitment to nurturing emerging engineering professionals through our apprenticeship programmes.
He was joined by Gintare Budriunaite, Marketing Director, and Andrew Linfoot, Engineering Director, who shared valuable insight into the evolving Energy Sector and the critical role Engineers play in delivering resilient and reliable power networks.
Our Level 4 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship, delivered in collaboration with The Engineering Trust, and our Electromechanical Degree Apprenticeship, delivered in partnership with Warwick University, were presented as compelling alternatives to the traditional university route. We were also pleased to be joined by Melvyn and Millie Parr from The Engineering Trust, reflecting the strength of our partnership and shared commitment to developing emerging talent.
Guests learned how these programmes enable individuals to earn, learn, and gain meaningful real-world experience from day one, providing a structured pathway into long-term engineering careers.
Engineering in Action
Following the presentations, visitors stepped into our production facility to experience engineering first-hand.
Demonstration stations hosted by members of our design and engineering teams showcased completed end-of-line products and the innovation behind them. Visitors saw the precision, complexity, and problem-solving that underpin the solutions we design and manufacture.
Throughout the evening, guests asked thoughtful questions about design evolution, technical challenges, and day-to-day engineering life. Our teams responded with openness and enthusiasm, offering a genuine glimpse into the rewarding work conducted at Lucy Electric every day.
Hearing from Our Apprentices
One of the most impactful aspects of the evening was the opportunity to hear directly from our current cohort of apprentices.
Year 1 and Year 2 apprentices, including Maisi Partridge, Caspia Huntington-Davies and Matthew Reaney, guided tours of the facility, sharing honest reflections on balancing academic study with hands-on experience, the responsibility they have already taken on, and the supportive environment that enables them to grow.
Their confidence and professionalism brought our apprenticeship pathways to life and demonstrated the tangible impact of investing in future talent.
Investing in the Future
The Apprenticeship Open Evening was more than an information event; it was a reflection of Lucy Electric’s long-term investment in developing the next generation of engineers.
The enthusiasm shown by attendees and the meaningful discussions throughout the evening reinforced the strong interest in high-quality, career-focused engineering opportunities. We are proud of the contributions made by our colleagues, apprentices, and partners in delivering an engaging and inspiring experience.
We now look forward to receiving applications from the talented individuals who joined us and to continuing our valued partnerships with The Engineering Trust and Warwick University as we support and develop the engineers of tomorrow.
