Last month, a group of eight colleagues from LME and FZE came together to take part in a Mangrove Planting Adventure, helping to restore the UAE’s coastline by planting eight mangrove trees. Each of these trees can live for up to 100 years, playing a vital role in protecting the environment for generations to come.
The activity supports the United Arab Emirates national sustainability and biodiversity ambition, which aims to plant 100 million mangrove trees by 2030 as part of its wider climate and environmental strategy. The team was proud to contribute to this important initiative and to play a small but meaningful part in safeguarding the country’s natural ecosystems.
- Kayaking to the planting site
Before heading out to plant, participants attended an informative briefing that explained why mangroves are so important. From absorbing carbon and supporting marine life to strengthening coastlines against erosion, the session highlighted the critical role mangroves play in maintaining a healthy environment.
The day itself was hands-on and memorable. After registration and a safety briefing, the team travelled to the planting site by dragon boat and kayak. Once there, they got stuck in—planting mangrove saplings and experiencing first-hand why mangroves are often described as nature’s superheroes. By the end of the session, all eight trees had been successfully planted. It was muddy, fun, and incredibly rewarding.
Well done to everyone from LME and FZE who took part in this fantastic initiative and helped support a greener future.
