Lucy Switchgear, a leader in medium voltage, secondary power distribution solutions, showcased Aegis, its latest generation of Ring Main Units, at Middle East Electricity 2014, from 11-13th February.

Capitalising on the company’s 100 year engineering heritage, the Aegis Ring Main range is designed to meet customers’ evolving technical and market needs. The units are automation-ready, can be motorised for remote operation and control and are easily integrated into SCADA networks.

Offering a cost effective solution using proven technology, the range delivers superior electrical performance and high levels of reliability, personnel safety and prolonged maintenance-free operation.

Available in 12kV, 17.5kV and 24kV options with up to 630 Amps ratings, the Ring Main Units (RMUs) can also be tailored to meet customers’ specific requirements and are suitable for use in a range of applications including power generation and distribution, commercial buildings, infrastructure and industrial.

In addition to the usual safety features, Aegis RMUs are designed to be maintenance-free and simple to install and operate. The units can be easily extended on site to suit various application needs, without any special floor preparation and feature up to four switching functions in a single tank, front access cable terminations and intuitive single line mimic diagrams.

Available in different combinations of load break switches and circuit breakers, all live parts and switching functions are insulated with SF6 gas in a hermetically-sealed, stainless steel tank. The stand alone units can be provided in indoor and outdoor versions, for a broad range of environmental conditions, and have been fully type tested at international test laboratories.

Fitted with either electronic relays or time limit fuses (TLF) for protection, the units have a range of additional safety features, such as internal arc rated tank and cable compartments, separate earth and test facility at the front, and an anti-reflex mechanism to prevent switch opening under fault conditions.

Sundeep Singh, Global Product Marketing Manager at Lucy Switchgear, said: “This new generation of Ring Main Units is designed to deliver specific benefits for Distribution Network Operators and customers in industrial markets alike. Developing best-in-class solutions for electrical distribution systems that meet local needs and our customers’ demands for efficiency, quality and built-in flexibility, is fundamental to our business. And our dedicated aftersales support service, for the full product lifecycle, means customers can buy our products with confidence.”

The stand also featured Lucy Switchgear’s new interactive Smart Grid animation which helps customers quickly identify which Lucy Switchgear products are right for their application, by visually locating the extensive Lucy Switchgear product range, within the distribution network.

Customers can click on products within the animation for more information, including features and benefits, technical specifications, application information, data sheets and case studies. The animation also shows an exploded view of the product, detailing how the internal components work and what options are available.
