Lucy Switchgear, a leader in medium voltage, secondary power distribution solutions, has today unveiled a new generation of Ring Main Units specifically designed to meet the needs of the South African market. Capitalising on the organisation's 100 year engineering heritage, the Aegis Ring Main Unit range provides a customisable, best-in-class solution to meet customers’ evolving technical and market needs.
Available in 12kV, 17.5kV and 24kV options, the units can be fitted with a number of optional features according to customers’ specifications. The applications include protection of secondary distribution substations, solar power plants, wind farms, co-generation facilities, industries and commercial buildings. The standalone units are available in indoor and out door versions, suitable for use in a broad range of environmental conditions.
Designed to be cost efficient and simple to install and operate, Lucy Switchgear Aegis Ring Main Units offer up to four switching functions in a single tank. The units feature front access cable terminations and intuitive single line mimic diagrams, and have been fully type tested at various international test laboratories.
All live parts and switching functions are insulated with SF6 gas in a hermetically-sealed stainless steel tank, ensuring high levels of reliability, personal safety and prolonged maintenance-free operation.
The units can be fitted with either electronic relays or time limit fuses (TLF) for protection and have a range of additional safety features, such as internal arc rated tank and cable compartments, separate earth and test facility at the front, and an anti-reflex mechanism to prevent switch opening under fault conditions.
Automation-ready, the Lucy Switchgear Aegis Ring Main Units are easily integrated with the SCADA network and can be motorised for remote operation and control.
Sundeep Singh, Global Product Marketing Manager at Lucy Switchgear said: “This new generation of Ring Main Unit is designed to deliver specific benefits for Distribution Network Operator, and customers in the renewable and industrial markets. Developing bespoke solutions for electrical distribution systems that meet local needs and our customers’ demands for efficiency, quality and built-in flexibility, is fundamental to our business. The Aegis Ring Main Unit range will be on display at the Lucy Switchgear booth (F04) from 14 – 15 May at African Utility Week.
